crash

August 16, 2010

As I write, someone I love is lying in a coma with severe brain and spine injuries, following a car accident last Sunday. I am not planning to write about this in detail as the purpose of my blog is not to upset people or make them feel sad. I only mention it here because some people already know about the accident or have read about it in the newspaper, and might wonder how I can continue to write about the superficial details of my life in the circumstances.

The answer is that it allows my mind, however briefly, to escape from the painful image of a small room in a neuro-chirugie unit where by a delicate arrangement of tubes and machines, one poor soul is clinging to life.

Your blog, as your books for that matter, is ( I think) the true reflection of your life, not a Walt Disney version of it. No apologies needed for making people 'sad'. What happpened is very sad. Bon courage for everything.

Karen, devoured your first book whilst on vacation in the Dordogne two weeks ago, came back and promptly order the second, which I am half way through. Have today stumbled upon your website. I clicked on, wanting to send my thanks for the joy your writing gives, but having now learnt of the recent crash, would like to add my sincere best wishes to you and yours for a complete and speedy recovery. You deserve so much happiness having given it to others through your books. Dx

Hi Karen, Just returned from Brittany having nearly finished your new book which I'm enjoying immensely. So pleased that there seems to be some progress in your loved ones condition and may it continue.
