I'm pretty certain that I'll be spending New Year's Eve at home working - a prospect that I'm quite looking forward to. I think I can count on one hand the number of New Year's Eves that I've truly enjoyed. (And as those who've read Tout Sweet will know I've been wary of venturing out on réveillon ever since the traumatic New Year's Eve altercation with my former friend Dave a few years ago).
If I was to be persuaded to go out, it would be to one of two places: either The Mad Hatter's Kitchen or my other favourite 'underground dining' destination, Les Ruches in Sommieres, where Spike and Nina Down are also doing a special New Year's Eve dinner: six wonderful sounding courses with champagne for €80.
Since Spike has cooked for rock stars and royalty and Les Ruches has a charming rustic ambiance - I had my birthday dinner there this year and it was one of my best birthday's ever - it's guaranteed to be good. There are also equally chambres d'hotes (shown left) if you don't want to drive home. www.les-ruches-cookery.com

"the traumatic New Year's Eve altercation with my former friend Dave a few years ago.."
As one of the very few who have yet to read the book, what happened..?
"Leave that slag, Mimi, 'ee's not worf it..!"
The Christmas period has always been recognised as an emotional minefield.. Too many hopes, dreams, expectations & drinks.. Not a good mixture!
Hope you enjoy this one.
