So spring is here and time to do some gardening in la petite cour. This means pulling up all the plants - expensively acquired from Jardiland last spring - which perished over the winter. Having lived in a top floor flat In London for many years, gardening does not figure highly on my list of personal accomplishments. In fact, until I moved to France, I was blissfully unaware of the seasonal nature of flowers. While I had noticed that daffodils and hyacinths for example, normally appeared around Easter time, that was about the extent of my horticultural knowledge. Nor, until the rose bushes in the courtyard withered and died, did I get the point of pruning.
But on Saturday, there were peonies in Poitiers market for the first time this year - the cue to get myself back down to Jardiland and start the plant-buying process all over again. The Man bought me a peony plant while we were there, which I will endeavour to keep alive until at least next spring, in order to see it flower. I also have high hopes of the rose trémir in the courtyard - winter's sole survivor. Although it failed to flower last year, it is already over a metre high and pushing upwards by several inches a day. Every time I look at it through the kitchen window, I think of Jack and the Beanstalk. Meanwhile, I have filled the house with vases of frilly peonies, which I now know, are only available in May.

What a great blog! At last someone 'younger' chronicling la vie en France with at least one Mui Miu still firmly anchored in metropolis.
The references to familiar brands, such as Laurent Perrier, Miu Miu, DKNY, Zara, et al, sounds like this is Bridget Jones gone bush!
Thousands of young Brits in search of a better quality of life abroad will doubtless take heart that, if the former London fashionista, 'mimi pompom', can move to rural France and still appreciate the glamourous life, so, too, can they.
Look forward to reading more of this blog from the fashion girl who's really taking 'South Ken' to a new locale.
